The first two major irrigation projects under the “Hydor 2.0” program were officially signed today in Karditsa and Farsala, marking a significant step in agricultural infrastructure modernization. The projects concern:

TOEB Tavropos Irrigation Network (Karditsa):
€131 million (excl. VAT) for the design, construction, financing, maintenance, and operation of an underground closed irrigation network serving 115,000 stremmas. -
Ypereia–Orfana Irrigation Network (Larissa–Karditsa):
€79 million (excl. VAT) for a system utilizing existing boreholes to irrigate 67,800 stremmas across multiple agricultural zones near the Enipeas River.
Both projects are Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) with substantial funding from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).
The “Hydor 2.0” program includes a total of five strategic irrigation projects across Greece, also involving:

Water infrastructure in Lassithi, Crete

A water transfer system from the Nestos River to Xanthi
Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Thanasis Kontogeorgis highlighted the urgent need to address climate change impacts, support sustainable farming, and ensure national food security. He stressed the importance of cooperation between the central government, local authorities, water management agencies, and farmers.
Finally, a government delegation visit is planned in Thessaly in late September to assess ongoing reconstruction efforts, compensation progress, and water management challenges in the region.
