The building will have a total area of approximately 8,270 sq.m., including a main banquet hall of 2,044 sq.m., offices for the First Lady, and a cinema. The construction will preserve a neoclassical style, featuring a stone façade and precast concrete elements.
The atrium will span two levels: offices and auxiliary spaces on the upper level, and the main banquet hall with a height of 11.5–12 meters. Foundations have already begun, but full construction will require approval from the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC).
The project has sparked public criticism, mainly due to the demolition of the historic East Wing prior to formal approvals. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has filed a lawsuit seeking to halt construction.
Regarding costs, former President Trump stated that donors—including billionaire Steve Schwarzman and companies such as Amazon and Coinbase—have pledged approximately $350 million toward the completion of the project.
With a total area exceeding 8,000 sq.m. and the capacity to host large events, the new atrium is intended to become one of the most impressive features of the White House, while simultaneously raising discussion about the scale and cost of the undertaking.
