The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Non-Profit Organization Symplefsi (AMKE Symplefsi) as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility program “Lighting What Matters.”
The project focused on the construction and installation of solar lighting along the pathway connecting the island’s central square to the Church of Saint Panteleimon, situated above the port of Agathonisi. This route, which had previously remained dark and unsafe during nighttime hours, has now been transformed into a well-lit and secure passage for both residents and visitors of the island.
The installed solar lights exclusively utilize clean, renewable energy from the sun, providing illumination without any environmental footprint or additional burden on the electrical grid, thus ensuring energy autonomy and durability. The installation was carefully executed with respect for the island’s natural environment and traditional landscape.
This effort was implemented in close cooperation with the Municipality of Agathonisi and the local parish, highlighting the power of collaboration between the private and public sectors to deliver meaningful, long-term benefits to local communities.
This initiative aligns with Volton’s broader vision for a just and sustainable energy transition. Through investments in clean energy solutions, the company promotes environmental awareness, enhances energy accessibility, and demonstrates that responsible business practices can harmonize with social contribution.
The project was officially handed over in early May, leaving a lasting bright mark on the island and paving the way for similar initiatives in other remote regions of our country.
