According to a related announcement by the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI), the decision represents a significant financial relief for small-scale manufacturing units, which operate in a particularly pressured economic environment, facing high fixed costs and limited consumer demand.
The President of the TCCI, Marios Papadopoulos, emphasized that the approval of the request is based on clear case law from the Council of State, according to which such fees are not lawful when vehicles pass occasionally without actually occupying public space.
He noted that situations such as the temporary entry and exit of vehicles into licensed business premises do not constitute sidewalk usage that would justify the imposition of a fee.
It is recalled that at the end of 2025, the TCCI had formally addressed the city’s municipalities, following repeated complaints from its members, requesting compliance with Council of State Decision 604/2025.
The unanimous acceptance of the request by the municipalities marks, according to the Chamber, a positive precedent for supporting productive activity and improving operational conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises in Thessaloniki.
