As stated in the related announcement, the Hirwaun power station, together with the two other OCGT stations being constructed by METLEN for Drax, is expected to provide sufficient electricity during periods of high demand or when renewable energy production from wind and solar is unavailable.
This ensures the stability of the electricity system for both households and businesses.
Once fully operational, the Hirwaun station will deliver flexible and immediate power generation, contributing to the United Kingdom’s energy security while supporting the transition to a lower-carbon energy system.
