With the new direct Thessaloniki–Düsseldorf flight, SKY express strengthens its operations at Macedonia Airport and expands its network into Central Europe.

According to a company announcement, the route operates three times per week – Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday – throughout the year, using the state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

The company stated that the new connection is a continuation of the existing Thessaloniki–Larnaca direct route, which has been operating since 2021, confirming SKY express’s strategic investment in Northern Greece. Additionally, the airline connects Thessaloniki to eight domestic destinations and provides access to an extensive international network via Athens.

Thessaloniki is emerging as a key development hub for SKY express, with passenger traffic increasing by 5.5% compared to last year. According to the company, this continuous growth reflects passenger confidence and reinforces the airline’s decision to further invest in the region.

During the special event for the first flight to Düsseldorf, SKY express’s Chief Commercial Officer, Gerasimos Skaltsas, emphasized that the new route represents a “significant milestone” in strengthening the connectivity of Northern Greece with Central Europe. He added that the available seats serving Thessaloniki in 2026 are expected to reach one million, highlighting the city’s pivotal role in the airline’s network.

Fraport Greece welcomed the new route, emphasizing Thessaloniki’s growing significance in international markets. Airline Marketing & Development Manager, Katerina Pollatou, noted that the Düsseldorf connection is particularly important, as it further enhances SKY express’s presence at Macedonia Airport and contributes to the development of regional airports.

Positive remarks were also made by Düsseldorf Airport. Senior Vice President Aviation, Dr. Henning Pfisterer, described the new route as a “valuable addition” to the airline’s network, noting that Thessaloniki is a destination of particular importance for North Rhine-Westphalia due to strong family and cultural ties with Northern Greece.

SKY express continues its outward-looking strategy, serving 27 international destinations in total and expanding its footprint in key markets. As part of this approach, the airline participated in the Philoxenia–Hotelia 2025 tourism exhibition, meeting with industry professionals and stakeholders, reaffirming its active role in promoting Greek tourism.
