The Central Municipality is launching a pilot pedestrianization initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of urban life. As part of this initiative, vehicular traffic will be temporarily restricted in designated areas, allowing citizens of all ages to fully enjoy and utilize public space in a safe and accessible environment.
According to a statement issued by the Thessaloniki Traffic Police Department, vehicle traffic will be redirected via Venizelou Street, Mitropoleos Street, and other central roadways. To ensure access to adjacent properties, Ploutarchou and Demosthenous Streets will operate temporarily as two-way streets.
Motorists are kindly urged to exercise increased caution, adhere strictly to traffic signage and the directions of traffic officers, and adjust their speed accordingly—especially on roads surrounding Nikis Avenue—to prevent accidents and minimize traffic congestion. Enhanced traffic control measures will be in effect, with officers stationed at key intersections to assist with traffic management and ensure smooth circulation.
