Microsoft launches its investment in Attica

The Ministry of Development approved the fast-track licensing and siting incentives for Microsoft's large investment in Greece.

The investment of "Microsoft Operations 4733 Hellas Sole Proprietorship" was characterized in accordance with the 74/15.4.2022 (Β΄ 3325) decision of the Interministerial Committee for Strategic Investments (D.E.S.E.) as a strategy. According to the relevant decision, the investment will be implemented by the company Microsoft Operations 4733 Hellas MAE receives:

1. the Rapid Licensing Incentive of article 9 of Law 4864/2021 and the

2. Placement Incentive of article 7 of Law 4864/2021 for the preparation of ESHASE in the places where the investment will be implemented.

Microsoft's investment in Greece concerns the creation of a complex of three Data Centers and Business Technology Support (Data Centers) in the prefecture of Attica, with the aim of developing and providing Cloud Computing services (Microsoft Cloud) in Greece (Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, Dynamics 365 and Power Platform), with a total cost of €976.168 million excluding VAT.

Of the amount of the investment, €925.8 million pertain to capital costs and €284.7 million to operational costs over an 8-year period (salaries, energy costs, etc.). The cost of the investment will be borne by Microsoft at 100%.

The investment will be implemented in three privately owned properties as follows:

The first Data Center will be built within the "Petra - Gialos - Voulia - Prokalissi" Business Park, the Municipal Unit of Spata - Loutsa, the Municipality of Spata - Artemis, the Regional Unit of Eastern Attica, the Region of Attica.

The second and third Data Centers will be built in the "Bourboutsana" location of the Municipality of Kropia, Eastern Attica Regional Unit, Attica Region.

It is noted that the creation of the three Microsoft data centers is the largest investment included in Law 4864/2021 on Strategic Investments.

The next one, amounting to 888.1 million euros (without VAT), provides for the creation of photovoltaic parks with a total capacity of 1.48 GW by the company Egnatia SA.
