According to available information, the tender for the completion (Phase B) of the Metropolitan Park “AENAON” at Faliro Bay was concluded with a single bid submitted by GEK TERNA – METKA.
The works included in Phase B concern the following:
a) Landscape and environmental works: Landscaping, environmental installations, planting, and the necessary infrastructure works, primarily addressing the “surface” layer of the entire redevelopment area, covering a total of 536.860 acres.
b) Supportive building program: This includes new above-ground building works covering 3,957.30 m², associated auxiliary underground spaces of 865.30 m², canopies covering 810 m², underground parking facilities spanning 30,930 m², modifications and improvements to existing buildings, and specialized constructions.
c) Pedestrian bridges: Construction of pedestrian bridges over the Ilisos River, the western canal towards Kifisos, and above the water tanks, ensuring connectivity between different zones and internal mobility within the Park.
d) Internal roadworks: Roadworks exclusively within the Park zone, including internal roads with asphalted carriageways, outdoor parking spaces for motorcycles, and access routes to underground parking areas, along with associated infrastructure works.
e) Hydraulic works: Installation of stormwater drainage, surrounding area drainage, sewage systems, primary and secondary irrigation networks, and supply for recreational water reservoirs.
f) Maritime works: Construction of piers, islets, and beach formations (in Moschato and Kallithea up to the nautical marina), including all necessary complementary studies at the final design stage, excluding the surface works of in-water structures.
g) Noise mitigation measures: Implementation of anti-noise measures to reduce urban noise originating from transportation.
h–i) Accessibility improvements: Construction of new crossings and other interventions to improve pedestrian and micro-mobility access along Ethnarchou Makariou Street and from the Faliro Metro Station to the Park.
The project is co-financed by the Cohesion Fund through the NSRF programs 2014–2020 and 2021–2027. The total budget of Phase B amounts to €353.76 million, of which approximately €300.7 million comes from European funds.
A project 15 years in the making
The current design of the project began in 2011 with the preparation of a Concept Master Plan by the Renzo Piano Building Workshop, envisioning a Park covering approximately 560–600 acres.
The project is being implemented in two phases. Phase A, which is nearly complete, included urban infrastructure works (transportation, hydraulic, and flood protection), with a key intervention being the transverse relocation of Poseidonos Avenue, ensuring the functional continuity of the city and flood protection.
Phase B focuses on the redevelopment works that define the Park’s character, including landscaping and planting, building and support facilities, pedestrian bridges, internal road networks, hydraulic works, maritime interventions, and noise mitigation measures.
The project is scheduled for completion within 36 months from the signing of the contract, with a 1% bonus provided for contractors who deliver at least 10% ahead of schedule.
