The Athens' city council has unanimously decided that the Ideal, Astor and Aello central historical cinemas should be declared preserved properties with respect to their use.

The decision was made shortly after the "Open city" party through its head Nasos Eliopoulos has filled a relevant resolution.

The Municipality of Athens invited the Ministry of Culture and Sports and any other competent Authority to act and declare the use of the historical cinema halls of Athens as preserved, as well as to ensure their institutional protection as places of culture, in accordance with the standards of protection has been ensured by a ministerial decision of 1997 for the city's summer cinemas.

It is been reminded that the three historic cinemas are housed in buildings belonging to EFKA for which the insurance body has launched utilization programs through long-term leases.
