A "Hydrogen Innovation Hub" is being created through the NSRF, in the former industrial area of AEVAL with co-financed public expenditure of 19,799,974 euros.

The project was comprised in the "Just Development Transition 2021-2027" Program with the National Center for Research and Technological Development (EKETA) as beneficiary.

According to the relevant decision of the Ministry of Development and Investments published in Diaygeia, the "Hydrogen Innovation Hub" (acronym "H2HUB") aims at independent research and the development of demonstrative applications of H2 technologies in terms of its production, storage and utilization in Greece and the wider region of South-Eastern Europe in order for the utilization of research results (R&D) to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the region.

As part of the research project, the H2-HUB includes a Pilot Unit for the production of Green H2 and its applications, while the following research actions can be developed:

    - Evaluation of energy flows, energy consumption of facilities,

    - Creation of basic pilot unit operation scenarios

    - Determination of optimal pilot unit operation scenario,

    - Optimizing the automation of the entire installation with the aim of better energy management of the installation and the effective response to emergency security incidents,

    - Evaluation of the energy efficiency of electrolytes, batteries, H2 injection in a transport pipe, fuel cells of different sizes with the aim of choosing the best technology for each case.

The specific actions will be implemented in the field and with modeling activities.

In addition, the necessary laboratory infrastructures will operate for the implementation of measurements and certifications of the performance of the equipment for Hydrogen and this is estimated to contribute to the wide diffusion of know-how, on a non-exclusive and non-discriminatory basis, for the development of specialized human resources and the support of the expected / ongoing green hydrogen industrial investments in the country and internationally.
