In June, 1,995 new settlement agreements were submitted on a monthly basis, representing a total value of over €670 million—the highest restructured amount recorded to date.
The data from June once again confirms that the doubling of income and asset eligibility thresholds, implemented in May, along with recent legislated improvements to the Out-of-Court Debt Settlement Mechanism, are delivering sustainable solutions, with a particular impact on middle-income households.
The overall contribution of the Out-of-Court Mechanism to private debt management is clearly reflected in the latest official figures: to date, the total number of successful settlements has reached 38,567, covering an initial debt volume of approximately €12.7 billion.
In parallel, during the month of June:
- 3,965 vulnerable households and
- 155 borrowers with disabilities (PWDs)
benefited from debt settlement arrangements under the mandatory protection framework.
Additionally, 222 debtors successfully suspended scheduled foreclosures by exercising the down payment safeguard option.
Bilateral Loan Restructurings with Servicers
Progress also continues in bilateral restructuring agreements with the four largest loan servicing companies (Intrum, Cepal, doValue, and Qquant). In May alone, successful restructurings totaled €500 million, benefiting approximately 6,000 borrowers.
Of these agreements, 41% pertain to mortgage loans, highlighting a targeted response to housing-related debt. Furthermore, the approval rate for restructuring applications has reached a record high of 83.7%, indicating a substantial improvement in responsiveness and access.
