Kastelli airport works are being gradually delivered

The progress of construction works in Kastelli airport is remarkable.

The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Nikos Tachiaos, who is in Crete for the second day visits major infrastructure projects, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the projects for the construction of the new international airport of Kastelli in Heraklion.

"The airport of Kastelli is a real proof of success of a partnership between the public and the private sector," says Mr. Tachiaos according to APE-MPE, who noted that for this reason "the success of the project" is important.

Mr. Tachiaos, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Development, Maximos Senetakis, and local officials of New Democracy, was informed by Michalis Gourzis, vice-president of the Board of Directors of GEK TERNA and the managing director of the new international airport Athanasios Vourdas, stating immediately after the information he had , that the work is going according to schedule. "The works are progressing according to the schedules and with the plans and this is really impressive" said Mr. Tachiaos, adding that they are already at 25% of the project, which is expected to be operational in February 2027

"We will strengthen our forces as much as we can as a State, in order to be able to meet the obligations of this partnership" Mr. Tachiaos pointed out, adding that "Crete will very soon acquire an airport which will truly be a landmark for the region, of which she can be proud". Finally, Mr. Tachiaos, who will visit the Bramianon Dam, as well as the construction site of VOAK in Neapoli, said that with regard to the new international airport, "the agencies of Crete should also accept that the investment of the Greek State and of the Greek government in the region, it is something in which they themselves must cooperate, in order for it to have an even greater depth of time".

Later, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport will also have a meeting with the regional governor of Crete, Stavros Arnautakis.
