RRF Urban Redevelopment Program starts with € 160 million in the Greek coffers

The beneficiaries ought to complete the contracting process by 2023.

The guide of the program "Strategic Urban Interventions" is in public consultation until September 9. The program includes a wide range of interventions aimed at upgrading and modernizing the public space and building stock of urban areas or units, improving the energy footprint, promoting circular economy, and managing natural resources, the adoption of "smart" applications and innovative technologies.

The European Recovery Fund is the financing body of the Investment Program "STRATEGIC URBAN INTERVENTIONS" and the Ministry of Environment and Energy acts as the managing body.

In particular, the program finances projects in 8 areas:

1. EMPHEMATIC REDEVELOPMENTS

which may include the complete promotion and upgrading of historic centers, or other wider urban areas, as well as renovations of large coastal or other historic and important fronts.

2. UPGRADE AND / OR REUSE AND ENERGY UPGRADE OF BUILDING STOCK 

(such as public, municipal, other LEPLs buildings, etc.) which may include upgrading and reusing buildings presenting a special architectural value (listed for preservation or not) as well as any other inactive building stock, aesthetic, functional and energy upgrades of buildings, upgrade and reuse building complexes.

3. WATER ROUTES AREAS RENOVATION AND GREEN GRID CREATION

which may include regeneration of waterways and areas (streams, rivers, lakes, etc.) and the creation of an extensive green network at the municipal level (this category also includes streams / tributaries / riparian / lakeside areas, not included in urban plans, the regeneration of which is deemed necessary for the completion of the project)

4. COMREHENSIVE STRATEGIC INTERVENTIONS IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS

which may include the identification and creation of areas with special features (eg areas with low speed limits and / or mild traffic, areas with car-free inland roads, etc.), as well as the creation of a network of mild road circulation at the municipal community - neighborhood level.

5. RENOVATION OF PUBLIC SPACE THROUGH BIOCLIMATIC ELEMENTS AND SMART APPLICATIONS,

which may include the creation of light movement networks (sidewalks & light traffic streets, widened sidewalks, squares, bicycle infrastructure, delimitation of aisle parking, controlled parking systems, etc.) as well as the creation and installation of public car charging points, vehicles / bicycles / micro-mobility, etc.

6. BIOCLIMATIC UPGRADE OF MUNICIPAL & PUBLIC BUILDINGS,

  which may include the installation of passive and / or energy systems.

7. URBAN GREEN SPACES DEVELOPMENT,

which may include urban green networks as well as green development applications and actions in municipal and public buildings (this category also includes suburban green areas not included in urban plans, the renovation of which is deemed necessary for the integrated nature of the project).

Timetable

The beneficiaries ought to complete the contracting process by ....2022 (Milestone 1). In special cases and for special reasons, the contracting of the projects can be done until ....2023 (Milestone 2).

Proposals that have not been contracted prior to this date, will be automatically removed from the Program and the submitted data are returned to the beneficiaries.
