The sculpture rises at the point where a concrete base meets an aluminum plane, forming a sinuous, serpentine structure in motion.
Composed of hundreds of pre-folded aluminum strips, it is painted in seven harmonious hues, ranging from soft green and deep blue to warm yellow. Its surface seems to “breathe,” acting like a living skin that interacts with the light and the shifting colors of the surrounding landscape, creating a dynamic, immersive experience for viewers.

As the dome ascends toward the treetops, it frames sweeping views of the park, surrounding neighborhoods, and distant mountains. From the ground, Pier 865 presents itself as a sinuous, organic form; from above, it unfolds like a serpent gliding through the park.
The sculpture is supported by five slender legs and extends into three distinct wings: one gently curves forward, another rises into a shaded platform—a “stage” for intimate gatherings—and a third slopes down toward the trees, creating a serene space for reflection and retreat.
Since 1986, the Cradle of Country Music Park has honored Knoxville’s musical heritage and served as a vibrant community hub. Pier 865 builds on this legacy, reimagining public art not merely as a visual statement, but as functional urban infrastructure that harmoniously connects people with both nature and the cityscape.
