To date, approximately 11,000 loans have been approved and granted, with a total value of €1.258 billion, and an average loan amount of €119,490.
As Mr. Papathanasis noted, there is strong participation from regional areas, with a higher number of approvals in Central Macedonia, Thessaly, Thrace, and Western Greece, regions where access to housing credit has historically been more challenging.
From “My Home I” to “My Home II”
The “My Home” program initially launched in 2023 as part of the government plan “My Home for Young People”, aimed at providing low-interest or interest-free housing loans for individuals aged 25 to 39. The success of the first phase and the high demand from applicants led to the development of the second phase, “My Home II”, which commenced in 2024 with expanded eligibility criteria and an increased budget.
Significant concerns were raised regarding the design of both programs and whether they successfully achieved their goal of offering affordable housing to young people and young couples. While “My Home II,” like its predecessor, significantly increased demand, and although the range of eligible properties was expanded, thousands of families were required to pay a substantial additional cost (“premium”) on the value of the property.
