According to an announcement by the Ministry of Culture, the buildings are being converted into museums, as well as those that will accommodate supplementary functions of the estate, including museum exhibitions and the necessary infrastructure for their operation, as well as the recording, documentation, and conservation of movable monuments and, in general, objects of the former royal family.
The total budget for the projects exceeds €70,000,000, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the Regional Operational Program "Attica," the Operational Program YMEPERAA of the NSRF 2014–2020 and 2021–2027, the Development Operational Program of the Ministry of Culture, and private sponsorships.
According to the Ministry of Culture’s announcement, restoration works at the Palace are in full progress, with groups and phases of the project either completed or nearing completion. Notably, the electromechanical installations, restoration of the basement and attic have been finalized, followed by work on the ground and first floors. The museological and museographic studies have been completed, and their implementation is beginning. Regarding the Palace Gardens, the installation of infrastructure has been completed, and planting works are ongoing.
Works at the Stables of King George I, which will house the Museum of Royal Carriages, are progressing satisfactorily, with the complex and demanding roof reconstruction completed. The museological and museographic studies have been finalized, and the carriages, along with the rest of the exhibition materials, have been fully conserved. Restoration of the New Cattle Shed is advancing rapidly, with completion expected in the next quarter. The ground floor of the building is planned to host two thematic museums: one dedicated to the vehicles—monuments of the former royal family, and the other to the estate’s agricultural and livestock production. The vehicles to be exhibited have been fully restored, as has the equipment related to agricultural and livestock production. Work on the upper floor of the Cattle Shed is progressing and will be completed in order to function as a space for conferences and cultural events. Maintenance and restoration works at the Mausoleum, opposite the Church of the Resurrection, have been completed with sponsorship from the Aigeas Non-Profit Organization of Athanasios and Marina Martinos.
Nine buildings, such as the vehicle parking complex, Sturm House, and the Head Gardener’s House, will host supplementary and supportive functions of the Ministry of Culture’s services, including the Conservation Directorate’s workshops and broader cultural uses, as well as the police and fire stations within the estate.
At the same time, infrastructure works throughout the estate are progressing, including fire-fighting, water supply, and sewage networks. Finally, with funding from the Athanasios Laskaridis Foundation, cleaning and vegetation management works have been carried out to enhance the estate’s fire protection.
