The Schwarz Group, the Germany-based conglomerate controlled by billionaire founder Dieter Schwarz, is planning to propose taking the lead as the primary developer of one of Europe’s large-scale data center projects, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Sources cited by the outlet say the company is prepared to invest "billions of euros" into the initiative, as Germany looks to tap into the €20 billion EU fund earmarked to support the development of next-generation AI giga-factories and infrastructure.
Germany’s Minister for Digital Technology, Karsten Wildberger, recently met with representatives from the Schwarz Group, as well as Deutsche Telekom AG and SAP SE, to discuss issues of "digital sovereignty", Bloomberg reported.
A spokesperson from the Ministry for Digital Affairs confirmed the meeting, stating that the German government is determined to “reduce technological dependencies for Germany and Europe” and significantly expand domestic expertise in key strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, semiconductors, and cybersecurity.
