The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was approved by the competent committee for the project concerning the modernization and operation of the existing 18-hole golf course in Afandou, Rhodes.

The major investment project in Afandou is being implemented by Afandou Real Estate Single-Member S.A., a property development company of the Mitsis Group. The project includes the upgrade of the existing golf course into a specialized tourist facility, along with the enhancement of its current supporting infrastructure.

Total investments are projected to reach €500 million and will involve the development of three high-specification hotels, a marina, a shopping center, tourist residences, and a modernized golf course. The upgraded course is expected to become a major international attraction for professional and amateur golf players alike.

The approved Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) by the Regional Authority pertains specifically to the modernization and operation of the existing 18-hole golf course, which spans approximately 501 stremmas (about 50 hectares). Notably, the course has been operating until now without officially approved environmental terms.

According to the study, the only new structure planned is a 300 sq.m. steel canopy, with an estimated construction cost of €50,000. The existing buildings do not require maintenance and are therefore excluded from the project’s budget and operating expenses. Similarly, the existing road infrastructure will remain unchanged, as access will continue through the current interchange.

The golf course, originally designed by the renowned British golf course architect Donald Harradine, is accompanied by auxiliary facilities and a clubhouse with a capacity of 200 people.

Currently, the course experiences low visitor numbers. While it has the capacity to accommodate up to 200 golfers per day, even during peak tourist season, daily usage rarely exceeds 50 players.
