Hammersmith & Fulham Council has given the “green light” for the development of London’s largest available plot, which has remained vacant since the historic Earls Court Exhibition Centres were demolished.

The real estate companies driving the £10 billion Earls Court project are now awaiting the second critical decision from the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, as the plan spans both boroughs. If “dual” approval is granted, preliminary works are expected to begin in 2026.

According to the developers, the first residents are anticipated to move in by 2030, while the full completion of the project is projected for 2041.

The first phase will include up to 1,300 new homes, the creation of public realm spaces, and the first cultural venue in the new neighborhood.

Overall, the ambitious redevelopment will cover the entire Earls Court concept—one of the largest urban regeneration projects in the UK—featuring thousands of additional homes in later phases, three cultural venues, and 20 acres of parks and public spaces.

The plan also includes a 2.5 million sq ft work complex, specifically designed for innovation and climate technology companies.

The urban redevelopment will feature a zero-carbon footprint thanks to the new zero-carbon energy network in the area.

Rob Heasman, CEO of Earls Court Development Company, emphasized that the approval marks a major milestone after years of community collaboration, noting that the site is “an underutilized, central plot with excellent transport links that can deliver new homes, jobs, and public spaces on a large scale. Earls Court will become a new district in West London.”
