Two urban redevelopment projects in Chania to be financed through the Recovery and Resilience Fund

Redevelopment of 30 buildings blocks in the city center and completion of the Cycle Track in Kathiana, budget €15 million.

The Municipality of Chania has approved the financing of two extremely important projects for the region, comprised in the Recovery and Resilience Fund of the Ministry of Finance, has the Mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis, announced in the context of a Press Conference.

The projects are the "Urban Redevelopment of the Residential Center of Chania" and "Strategic Redevelopment of the Chania Municipality Cycling Area", with a total combined budget of c.14,500,000 euros.

The Press Conference was attended by the President of the Municipal Council of Chania, Eutychis Damianakis, G.G. of the Municipality, Giorgos Fragiadakis, Deputy Mayors, Presidents of the Board of Directors, representatives of sports clubs and officials of the Municipality.

Urban Redevelopment of the Residential Center of Chania

It is a total redevelopment, on approximately 34,700sqm (30 building blocks) in the center of Chania, with new sidewalks using modern materials, ecological lighting, rich new planting and urban amenities, with an emphasis on accessibility for all and an upgraded image of center. 

The redevelopment is bounded to the west by Kissamou Street, to the east by Karaiskaki Street, to the north by Kydonias Street and to the south by M. Botsari Street.

As for the Cycle Track, it is a strategic renovation, with an initial budget of 8,000,000 euros in total, which will be worthy of large sports facilities of international standards.
