Greek Imports drop by 14.7% in May 2025

The total value of imports, in May 2025 amounted to 6,469.2 million euros (7,274.5 million dollars) in comparison with 7,581.4 million euros (8,172.3 million dollars) in May 2024, recording a drop, in euros, of 14.7%.

According to data unveiled by ELSTAT, the corresponding value excluding oil products in May 2025 recorded an increase of 372.8 million euros or 7.2% and the corresponding value excluding oil products and ships in May 2025 recorded an increase of 343.8 million euros or 6.7%, in comparison with May 2024.

The total value of exports, in May 2025 amounted to 4,177.4 million euros (4,725.6 million dollars) in comparison with 4,231.4 million euros (4,588.9 million dollars) in May 2024, recording a drop, in euros, of 1.3%. The corresponding value excluding oil products recorded in May 2025 an increase of 268.4 million euros or 9.1% and the corresponding value excluding oil products and ships in May 2025 recorded an increase of 274.0 million euros or 9.3%, in comparison with May 2024.

The deficit of the trade balance, in May 2025 amounted to 2,291.8 million euros (2,548.9 million dollars) in comparison with 3,350.0 million euros (3,583.4 million dollars) in May 2024, recording a drop, in euros, of 31.6%.The corresponding value of deficit excluding oil products in May 2025 recorded an increase of 104.4 million euros or 4.7% and the corresponding value excluding oil products and ships in May 2025 recorded an increase of 69.8 million euros or 3.2%, in comparison with May 2024.

The total value of imports, for the 5-month period from January to May 2025 amounted to 33,563.8 million euros (36,170.7 million dollars) in comparison with 35,460.6 million euros (38,250.5 million dollars) for the corresponding period of the year 2024, recording a drop, in euros, of 5.3%.The corresponding value excluding oil products recorded an increase of 887.7 million euros or 3.4% and the corresponding value excluding oil products and ships recorded an increase of 813.1 million euros or 3.1%, in comparison with the period from January to May 2024.

The total value of exports, for the 5-month period from January to May 2025 amounted to 20,157.0 million euros (21,855.0 million dollars) in comparison with 21,058.8 million euros (22,855.5 million dollars) for the corresponding period of the year 2024, recording a drop, in euros, of 4.3%. The corresponding value excluding oil products recorded an increase of 856.7 million euros or 5.8% and the corresponding value excluding oil products and ships recorded an increase of 871.5 million euros or 5.9%, in comparison with the period from January to May 2024.

The deficit of the trade balance, for the 5-month period from January to May 2025 amounted to 13,406.8 million euros (14,315.7 million dollars) in comparison with 14,401.8 million euros (15,395.0 million dollars) for the corresponding period of the year 2024, recording a drop, in euros, of 6.9%. The corresponding deficit excluding oil products recorded an increase of 31.0 million euros or 0.3% and the corresponding deficit excluding oil products and ships recorded a drop of 58.4 million euros or 0.5%.

The monthly data of Intra-EU transactions, have been adjusted to the total trade transactions with EU countries, including the transactions below the statistical threshold(1) , on the basis of the Recapitulative Statements of Intra-EU Deliveries and Acquisitions that are submitted by the enterprises to the Independent Authority of Public Revenue. Accordingly, the provisional data from the “incomplete customs declarations” have been incorporated in the monthly data on trade with third countries and, after having been completed, they will be replaced by the final data.
