With the commissioning of the new unit, AVAX marks the completion of its third consecutive project at the Besmaya power station, underscoring its longstanding collaboration with the Mass Group Holding (MGH). The new natural gas-fired unit, equipped with a General Electric 9F.04 gas turbine, has been designed with future upgrade potential to a combined cycle configuration, aiming to further enhance both output capacity and efficiency.
The $82 million energy unit will play a crucial role in meeting the demands of Iraq’s national power grid, especially during peak consumption periods. The Besmaya facility represents a project of significant technological and construction complexity.
This milestone highlights AVAX’s strong project management capabilities combined with the technical excellence and dedication of its specialized engineering and site teams. It also confirms the company’s ability to deliver complex energy infrastructure projects in challenging environments while adhering to strict timelines. This achievement reflects AVAX’s commitment to quality and reliability.
Major Energy Project Underway in Romania
Building on a successful and long-standing partnership with MGH, the AVAX Group has already delivered over 3,430 MW of installed capacity to the company. This collaboration continues vigorously, as AVAX is currently implementing one of Europe’s largest energy projects under construction: the 1,750 MW MINTIA Combined Cycle Power Plant in Romania, a project of critical importance to the country. The completion of this landmark facility will further strengthen the total installed capacity delivered and reinforce the solid relationship AVAX has cultivated with Mass Group Holding over the years.
Mr. Christos Ioannou, Chairman of AVAX Group, remarked:
“We are extremely proud of our highly skilled team that successfully executed this strategically significant and demanding project. This achievement follows our two previous projects at the same station and the ongoing Mintia Power Plant project in Romania. I would like to sincerely thank MGH for the trust they have placed in us by awarding our fourth consecutive project—a responsibility and honor for us. Through projects of this scale, we reaffirm our commitment to expanding AVAX’s presence in the global energy market, striving for new successes, creating lasting value, and promoting sustainable development.”
