Greek imports increase 31,3% in August

Greek imports jumped in August, leading to a 31.3 pct increase in the country's trade deficit in the month, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday.

 

The statistics service, in a report, said that the Greek trade deficit grew 20.4 pct in the January-August period, compared with the same period last year.

The value of imports-arrivals totaled 3.65 billion euros in August, from 3.192 billion in August 2016, for an increase of 14.3 pct (excluding oil products imports it grew 3.0 pct while excluding oil products and ships imports it rose by 5.4 pct).

The value of exports-deliveries totaled 2.016 billion euros in August, up 3.5 pct from the same month last year (excluding oil products, exports grew 8.0 pct and excluding oil products and ships exports, they rose 7.2 pct).

The country's trade deficit was 1.633 billion euros in August, up 31.3 pct from August 2016 (excluding oil products, the trade deficit fell 2.3 pct and excluding oil products and ships, the trade deficit grew 3.4 pct).

In the eight-month period from January to August, the value of imports grew 17.4 pct to 33.449 billion euros (excluding oil products, imports rose 10.3 pct and excluding oil products and ships, imports rose 6.6 pct).

The value of exports rose 15.1 pct to 18.666 billion euros (excluding oil products, exports rose 6.9 pct and excluding oil products and ships exports rose 7.1 pct).

The trade deficit was 14.783 billion euros, up 20.4 pct from the same period in 2016 (excluding oil products, the trade deficit rose 13.9 pct and excluding oil products and ships, the trade deficit increased 6.0 pct).
